Proxemics
Today our lesson began by focusing on proxemics (spatial awareness.) We took part in an exercise called "torpedoes" this is where you become aware that someone is coming toward you and you have to move before they reach you. In the second half of the days sessions we started to focus on our devised piece "moments." We explored a range of different ways to move across a space in an interesting way. We started by focusing on our walks we have in everyday life. We then emulated Jess's. walk which eventually metamorphosed into an over exaggerated walk which showed Jess's character. As "Phonoballoon" played by Kahimi karie we explored walking across the circular lit space in interesting forms using our physicality. As the music was joyously creepy and depicted a toy/doll like scenario, I walked with a rigid limp and a smile on my face whilst changing into a smoother and faster physicality changing the dynamics of my walk to depict change. Eventually we did this in a large group one by one, then in a group of 3 we traveled across the space using each other to keep it interesting. Over all I think the work I did was good but I think that I need to show more of a contrast between my conforming to society views of how I should be doll walk and my expressive realistic walk. I also think that the over all opening needs to become faster and more complex to give to piece a Mitch faster pace, this will increase the intrigue the audience will have watching it.

A quick correction above - "Spatial Awareness" rather than "Special Awareness".
ReplyDeleteYou are beginning to reflect really well on the work carried out in the session. Keep on along these lines, picking out elements of the work, describing them and then commenting on them in terms of whether they are suitable for performance, or how you could change them to make them suitable.
